Meet the Providers

Carmen D. Rocco, M.D.

I was born in Habana, Cuba. My father was a pediatrician and practiced here in Brownsville (Dr. Rafael de la Cruz). My mother is and has always been a housewife although she has worked as an educator and a nurse assistant. I have a brother and a sister.

I graduated from high school in Austin, Texas, and graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. I attended medical school at the Medical Branch in Galveston in 1986.

During my years in Galveston, I had opportunities to write and became funded to do many education programs and programs that impacted underserved populations. I also experienced health care firsthand when I was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes (Hodgkin’s Disease) in 1985 and underwent surgery and treatment in 1986. I have practiced in Brownsville since 1986. I first worked with my father and exclusively with the Brownsville Community Health Center until 1998.

I am board certified in pediatrics and I am on the clinical faculty of the University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston and University of Texas Medical Branch-San Antonio. I am married to Jim Goza. We have three children. I am devoted to children: mine, yours, and our community’s. It is a wonderful experience to share in the health care of your child.
